The Purple One: A Tribute

AGlobalLifestyle-Prince-Love Symbol-1992Find Me On The B Side
I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like Prince. I’m sure they’re out there somewhere on a small remote island, but for the rest of us, we’re in a purple state of mourning. Our eclectic musical tour guide has left–but not without a cadre of music to keep us going the rest of the way. He was ahead of his time and always evolving.

Regarded as one of the Bay Area’s second sons, Prince recently performed in both Oakland and San Francisco for his impromptu tour. His Bay Area love affair began with his first studio album recorded in Sausalito. Classics like Purple Rain, Do Me Baby, and Little Red Corvette are enjoyed by many, but I’ll spend the next few days digging into my personal faves: The Beautiful Ones, Nothing Compares 2 U, Darling Nikki, When You Were Mine, and countless others from the B side.

I don’t think there’s another artist I’ve been as drawn to. He pushed the boundaries of sexuality and gender with words and imagery that created a space and time where we could be our authentic selves.
