Gerard Meyer Makes Tasty, Reimagined Cottage Cheese With Muuna

Muuna is an innovative dairy company that has reimagined cottage cheese with new protein-packed, single-serve cups and unique fruit-on-the-bottom flavors. Its products are free of artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners. Available flavors include strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, peach, mango, black cherry, raspberry and vanilla. How would you describe Muuna to someone who hasn’t yet tasted it?

Gerard Meyer: Muuna is uniquely rich and creamy, protein-packed, melt-in-your-mouth, single-serve cottage cheese in plain and a variety of fruit flavors with real fruit pieces on the bottom. Muuna fruit flavors each contain 15 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar per 5.3 oz. cup. Muuna is available in strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, peach, mango, and plain varieties — black cherry, raspberry and vanilla are our three newest flavors — making them the perfect on-the-go snack or meal.

Do you have a favorite of the Muuna varieties available?

They’re all my children so I love them all. But Mango is probably my favorite.

Prior to becoming CEO of Muuna, you were the president of SodaStream and had consulted for some major brands. What was your entry into the food industry?

I started out at General Foods, a subsidiary of Kraft. I worked on iconic brands such as Kool-Aid and Jell-O. I later worked at both Campbell’s Soup and B&G Foods. In all of these roles, I worked in marketing where I was laser-focused on the consumer, which is key when building a brand. Everything must start with the consumer.

When not busy with work, how do you like to spend your free time?

I’m married with three boys and a golden retriever. I’m a dog fanatic, especially golden retrievers. I also do a lot of running, including competing in half-marathons, as I like to do a lot of eating.

Finally, Gerard, any last words for the kids?

Cottage cheese was once more than twice the size of yogurt. But while yogurt innovated with snack packaging, flavor variety and a focus on health and wellness, cottage cheese remained stuck in the past as a bland, plain, diet food. Muuna has reimagined the cottage category for today’s consumer who looks for great taste, high protein, and lower sugar foods without all kinds of artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.
