Bimini: A Tropical Oasis in Our Back Yard

I’m sure you’ve heard that it’s better in the Bahamas. Well, Resorts World Bimini is one of the reasons why.

Just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the U.S. One of the favorite destinations of writer Ernest Hemingway, Bimini features miles of white sand beaches and is rumored to be part of the Lost City of Atlantis! (All photos courtesy of Aniesia Williams.)

The Stay
Resorts World Bimini is a 750-acre luxury beachfront Hilton resort with more than 300 elegant guest rooms and suites, 10 restaurants/cafes/bars, and 3 stunning pools. And it’s pet-friendly (up to 20 pounds)! Each spacious guest room features queen- or king-sized beds, floor-to-ceiling windows, modern bathrooms with large walk-in showers and double-sink vanities, and balconies that overlook the gorgeous property. The suites, located on the first floor of the resort, take the luxury up a notch with an expansive living area, a private pool deck that leads to the resort’s lagoon pool, and marble touches and accents throughout.

The Food
Bimini has four fine dining establishments with menus designed by Executive Chef Georg Paulussen. At The Tides restaurant, guests can enjoy a daily breakfast buffet and full lunch and dinner featuring fresh seafood, pastas, wood-fire grilled pizzas. Top Chef winner Hung Huynh is the head chef at the intimate Sushi Bar, where freshly prepared sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, along with flavorful noodle dishes and specialty cocktails are served. And the Lobby Bar upgrades the idea of bar food. Specialties like East Coast oysters, shrimp cocktails, and Florida Stone Crab claws are paired with creative cocktails and wine by the glass.

The casual dining on the property is perfect for a laid-back meal, caffeine break, snack, or a refreshing tropical drink. Hemingway’s sports bar serves up delicious gourmet burgers and wings, Oasis swim-up bar is great for light bites and tropical cocktails, and restaurants like Monkey Business, The Beach Club and The Healing Hole offer specialty drinks and grilled entrees along with panoramic views of Bimini Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy fresh paninis, salads, pizzas, pastries, and a variety of coffee beverages at Amicci’s; and Luna Beach, Bimini’s newest luxury beach club and restaurant, boasts world-class cuisine and Sunset Sessions happy hours with DJ Arlette.

And if you’re feeling like some local cuisine, visit Joe’s Conch Stand just off the property for some genuine, home-made conch salad!

The Activities
The beaches in the Bahamas are some of the most beautiful in the world. Explore them all by renting a golf cart and simply following the roads around the resort. Bimini Undersea, the on-property water sports center, is the place to rent jet skis, glass-bottom kayaks or paddleboats when you want to do more than simply enjoy the water from the beach.

There’s no shortage of things to do with a 10,000-sq-ft. casino on the property, complete with more than 160 slot machines. Relax and rejuvenate at Serenity Spa and Salon where you can be pampered and beautified. And spend a leisurely afternoon at the charming Fisherman’s Village marina and marketplace, shopping and exploring. Guests can go on bike excursions and boat tours, go deep-sea fishing, and experience aquatic adventures like shark and stingray encounters. There are even historic shipwrecks to see and explore—the Gallant Lady, which ran ashore as a result of Hurricane Mitch in 1997, and the S.S. Sapona, a concrete-hulled cargo steamer that was run ashore during a hurricane in 1926.

So the next time you want a tropical vacation but don’t want to travel too far, don’t forget about Bimini and see for yourself that it’s better in the Bahamas.
